Mid in the West Part 2 – Loveland Pass

It was Luke’s last day in town and it was his choice of where we should go ride. After shuttling Loveland pass for the past couple days Luke wanted to return to explore a little more and to share the good snow he had found. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about I’ll do my best to explain…

Mid in the West

A friend of mine recently came out to Colorado to catch the first few weeks of the new season before heading back to Michigan to catch the start of their season. Bringing the Midwest luck with him Luke arrived to a snow covered Denver as we had just received a second fall storm. After an interesting day of attempting to film, a trip to the ER (not for us) and some epic mini shred, Luke still wanted more. So off we ventured through neighborhoods and up mountain sides looking for something, anything that looked like it could help us have fun on our snowboards. Finally, we stopped at the base of a very worn out looking sled hill and Luke giving me the look that says “well, how bout it?” stepped out of the car. Here we are on the edge of the Mile High city, at the base of the Rocky Mountains and of all the places we could have chosen to go snowboarding, we picked this haggard looking hill. Turns out, it was the best pick of the day. Dodging mini boulders and cacti, we dropped in on the sled hill and a blast of nostalgia hits…

First Hike in CO – James Peak 13,294 feet

Taking in the view close to 13,000ft

Since I’ve lived in Colorado I’ve done a lot of different things and been to a lot of different places. But Colorado is big, fun and full of adventures and I know I’ve only scratched the surface. A friend of mine tried all last summer to get me to come out and hike a 14er (a 14,000ft+ mountain), for many reasons it never happened. This year however, I hope to bag a couple 14ers with my friend Ryan. For our first adventure we decided to go mellow and hike James Peak (13,294ft) on the Continental Divide. I’m not used to being in the mountains outside of winter, typically the mountains are covered with snow and I have a board strapped to my feet when I decide to visit them. This was completely different and I loved it! Check out some of the photos that I snagged from the hike, the panoramic ones are my favorite. With James Peak under my belt for a warm up, next week is time for my first 14er! (more…)

First Day ’09-10 w/ Marc Moline & Steve Cummings

The beginning of the season is always interesting when your talking snowboarding. There’s not always snow, a place to shred or cooperative weather. For Colorado’s opening day weekend the Antix Media crew, Marc Moline and Steve Cummings, found a little of everything needed for a fun filled opening weekend. The snow guns were blasting, the sun wash shining and backyards were filled with ice shavings. Check out the following vid to see it all go down. Enjoy!
