ARKADE MAGAZINE – PAT MILBERY INTERVIEW
Arkade Magazine is a snowboard culture mag based out of Utah and when Pat asked me to do the layout for his interview in an upcoming issue, I was pretty pumped, as this was the kind of project that allows for a bit more creative freedom.
Initially Pat came to me with his ideas and thoughts on the layout, describing a very urban influenced representation of himself through print. Because being a snowboarder and an urban artist is a juxtaposition in itself, one creates in nature while the other creates within a man-made setting, there was an effort to include a back-country photo and a street photo on each layout to further highlight the contrast between the two elements.
The graphic elements where developed to provide a sense of movement through out the layout, allowing the reader’s eyes to flow from one page to the next while providing a cohesive look to the over all interview. I was also given a shot at the cover, beginning image at the top for the article, unfortunately they choose to go with another cover.

It feels like it has taken forever now to hear that this project has finally gone to print. I still have not had a chance to see the final printed piece, but I’m told I will be able to soon. Pat got his hands on a copy in Seattle and was very happy with what he saw. As soon as I get a few copies the photo’s will follow, until then enjoy the web version.
