While adventuring through Michigan on tour this past winter I had the chance to see some good friends and hear some great music. I pretty typically don’t shut up about my friends and the amazing music they make, luckily they are all starting to produce albums and more delicious sounds for your ear drums. At one point, my favorite Grand Rapids bands (friends) put together a last minute show for myself and all the homies on tour.
Eager to hear my first bit of Spirit Bear, on one of the first nights in town Mike Balmer, Ben Pozniak and Eric Browning treated me to a quick couple of songs. I had found the lyrics to this song titled “Future,” scribbled on a piece of notebook paper, laying on Balmers bed the night before. When I asked him about it, he got a look in his eye that told me this meant something to him and I knew it was gonna be good. So, slowly but surly I am putting together ‘mini’ edits of my brief stay in GR. This one here is the first in what could be many edits to come.
Thanks you for all the musical goodness while I was home for a bit!
Somewhere along the line, a couple of very good friends of mine decided to get together and start making music. When they told me about their band, the Sailor Kicks, I knew right away that this was gonna be good and I hadn’t even heard the music yet. We all pretty much grew up listening to the same music, skated together and went to school together so I thought I knew what to expect, but what I heard was way better!
Usually, any chance that I get to go and film I jump on it. This year, I’ve been able to be involved with multiple projects. Working with Marc Moline and Antixmedia, I’ve been able to provide video for several edits produce for Echo Mountain.
These first two are the most recent edits…

OPENING WEEK ECHO MOUNTAIN
3RD ANNUAL RAIL JAM ECHO MOUNTAIN
For a month I was on the road, traveling the Midwest with a revolving crew of shred heads from all over North America for the Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour. Bringing with us our passion for snowboarding to share with as many kids as possible, we made stops starting in Colorado continuing into the Midwest hitting Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. All told, there where 8 stops with 2 days at each camp. Without fail, at every stop I was amazed by not only the talent, hunger and passion of all the kids who showed up, but also by the wonderful hospitality shown to us by families, friends and strangers alike.
For the tour I was the video guy, part of “Team Media” including myself and photographer Terry “The Rat” Ratzlaff. For every day of camp I would produce, film and edit a video short for the tour sponsor SoGnar. For those of you doing the math, that’s roughly 16 edits. Of course, none of it would have been possible without everybody who was involved the tour, a huge thanks to all of you!
The edits in this post are a few of my favorites, if you enjoy them be sure to check out the rest of them!
DAY 2 AT BUCK HILL, MINNESOTA
DAY 1 TYROL BASIN, WISCONSIN
DAYS 1 AND 2 AT RAGING BUFFALO, ILLINOIS
DAY 1 CANNONSBURG, MICHIGAN
I’ve been on the road a bit recently and have definitely been keeping busy. For a the better part of a week I was running around northern Minnesota with some of the Red Bull athletes including So-Gnar’s Pat Milbery. Things with that crew where pretty crazy and tons of fun. Then it was off to Los Angeles to cover the X-Games again with Pat and also for Street Factory Media. Well, I finally caught my breath and have finished up 2 edits. The first is of some more Copper Woodward Camp fun, complete with wrecks and giveaways. The second, features Pat and some of the camp coaches like Erich Dummer, throwing down on the Jump under a blue summer sky.
IT’S ALL FUN AND GAMES – WOODWARD AT COPPER EDIT
SUMMER JUMP SESSION – WOODARD AT COPPER EDIT #2
Hope you enjoyed those edits, there are plenty more to come. The X-Games edit is in the mix, as we speak the Minnesota and Woodward footage is logged and waiting. I’m also finishing work on a interview layout for Arkade Magazine that I’m supper hyped on. Check back soon, there’ll be plenty to see.
Last weekend, I went out with Pat and Monster from So-Gnar to our fiend Mikey’s house, the Backyard Snowboard Park, for a little bit of summer shredding. The Fehrle’s are a pretty amazing family and have a great passion for their family and friends. In this short edit, you get glimpse of what I mean. From the moment you arrive your family, being offered food and beverages as well as hugs and hi fives. “This is the good life…” is right.
It looks like I’ll be continuing to do some work with So-Gnar on a part time basis though the summer, we’ve got a trip to Texas coming up which should create some good video. More posts to come as work on my portfolio continues and more video projects are on the horizon.
Working at Echo Moutnain this season I’ve been asked to do a variety of different things. Most recently I was asked to develop an online photo/video contest as well as collateral pieces, a poster and web banner . Turn around was fast, but over all I am pleased with the final product.
This contest is currently running with all entries due in by May 1st, details can be found at http://www.echomt.wordpress.com.
